Current public transportation services in Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty consist of fixes bus routes and on-demand services, including a free fixed route bus service operated by the University of Iowa. Iowa City and Coralville both have daytime and night-time bus service; however Coralville buses run an hour earlier and later than Iowa City buses. Bus s ervice to North Liberty is provided by Coralville transit and currently runs twice daily.
Iowa City Transit operates every half-hour on most routes during "rush" hour, 6:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hourly service runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and all day Saturday from 6:15 a.m. to 7:40 p.m. There is no service on Sunday.
Johnson County SEATS
The SEATS department provides rides to senior citizens, people with disabilities, and others who may otherwise find it difficult to conduct daily transactions. The SEATS vans regularly transport people to doctor's appointments, grocery stores, and other destinations providing its clients with a necessary and reassuring degree of freedom.
If you live in the SEATS service area (i.e. anywhere in Johnson County), but you do not have access to a regular bus service, you do NOT have to have a disability or be a senior citizen to access SEATS services.
Coralville Transit's hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 6:00 am to 11:45 pm and Saturdays, 7:15 am to 7:30 pm.
Bionic Bus
The purpose of the Bionic Bus is to provide transportation to individuals with disabilities. Our mission is to transport passengers safely and to help individuals on and off of the bus. Passenger cooperation will enable Bionic to provide effective service to everyone who needs it.
The University of Iowa Student Government has paired with Yellow Cab of Iowa City to provide FREE and safe transportation for all University of Iowa Students in an emergency situation. This cab service is meant to offer UI students emergency transport home to distance themselves from potentially dangerous situations.
CAMBUS is the University’s public transit system that provides fixed-route service throughout the campus. For qualifying persons with disabilities, CAMBUS also provides a complementary demand-response service called the Bionic Bus. The services are no fare and available to the general public.
Medical Transportation Program
This program provides transportation for adults of any age to medical appointments Johnson, Des Moines, Muscatine, and Iowa Counties. Anyone who cannot navigate public transportation and are in need of door through door transportation to and from medical appointments.
